September 15th - October 15th - Latinx Heritage Month

October 1st: Early Dismissal

October 18th: Fall Holiday - No School for Students & Staff

October 29th: 2022-2023 Application Window opens!

<IMPORTANT> SOCIAL MEDIA TREND

There is currently a Tik Tok trend called “Devious Licking” where students “lick” or steal items from school restrooms and teachers’ classrooms. While we've enjoyed the dance trends from the app in the past, this one is concerning given that it encourages students to steal from public places. Most common items seen on the trending videos are hand sanitizer, soap dispensers, and dictionaries; however, we’ve also confiscated items such as hall passes, dry erase markers, and other supplies. Please alert our Front Office if you notice your students with any items they should not have.

NEW 8TH GRADE TEAM MEMBERS

We’re excited to welcome Amber Johnson as our new 8th grade Social Studies teacher and Ana Bright as one of our new 8th grade ELA teachers. Both of these teachers come to us with professional experience working with youth and a passion for the content areas. Welcome Amber and Ana!

LATINX HERITAGE MONTH

From September 15th to October 15th, we’ll be celebrating Latinx Heritage Month on campus! Stay tuned on our social media pages to stay updated and see all the fun things we have planned for our staff and students!

PERU & EUROPE EF TOUR

If you were not able to join us for the interest meeting this week, but you ARE interested in joining us for one or both trips in the summer of 2022 (Peru) or 2023 (Europe), please reach out to Dylan Lewis (Dylan.Lewis@yesprep.org) or Angelica Sanchez (713-967-8786; Angelica.Sanchez@yesprep.org). We only have a few spots left for each trip, and if you register before September 22nd, you qualify for a $200 discount for the trip to Europe in 2023!

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL

For arrival and dismissal, parents MUST be following the guidance of the staff members outside. We are all working to get students safely into the building or into their cars at the start and end of the day. Parents should not be parking at neighboring businesses for their students and they should not be stopping outside our gates on Airline Dr. to pick up their students. We are committed to keeping all students, staff, and families safe during these busy times. We appreciate your assistance with this matter.

EARLY STUDENT PICK-UP

We have seen that a high number of students are being picked up early from school. This means that students are missing important class time and are risking falling behind in those courses. We ask that families take advantage of holidays to schedule any appointments.

*If you pick your student up early for an appointment, you MUST provide proper documentation. If not, that absence will be marked as UNEXCUSED in your student's record. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 713-842-5400.

STUDENT DISMISSAL

If your student is a car rider, please DO NOT park in the local businesses surrounding our school. Those parking areas are reserved for their customers only, and you run the risk of your vehicle being towed. You must get in the car rider line to pick up your student. Our gates open at 3:30 p.m. for dismissal.

<IMPORTANT> BACK TO SCHOOL FORMS

If you have not already,  you must complete your Back-to-School form for your students in order to complete re-enrollment.

All returning students to YES Prep will need to complete this form. Back-to-school forms are available through your Skyward Family Access account.
