ATTENDANCE & RETENTION

We want our families to be aware that this 22-23 school year, attendance WILL affect whether or not your student will be promoted to the next grade level.

Loss of credit or promotion impact is a consideration once students have unexcused absences that miss 10% or more of the school year (approximately 18 total days). Retention Placement Committees will review chronic absences at all grade levels to determine if attendance will impact a student’s final promotion or credit status.

The 2022-2023 YES Prep Handbook states, “If a student misses an excessive number of classes for a specific course, they may be reviewed by the Grade Placement Committee and be denied credit for the course. Guardians will be informed if a student is reviewed by the Grade Placement Committee.” Attendance is complex and when considering retention or loss of credit, YES Prep believes in ensuring outside factors (parent decisions, attendance coding errors, transcript errors etc.) do not inequitably impact a student’s ability to be promoted or to gain credit. However, in all cases of unexcused absences, YES Prep will take days missed into consideration when making decisions on make-up time, promotion status, and awarding of credit.

STUDENT DRIVERS

For the safety of all students and staff we will follow an updated student driver policy when we return in January. Students who wish to continue driving to campus will need to provide the items below to the front office and sign a student driver policy form before a car tag will be assigned. Cars in the parking lot without a Northline Student or Staff Tag will be towed from our parking lots starting in January. Additionally, registered drivers will only be approved to drive with their siblings.

MORNING DROP-OFF

As a reminder, all students who are car riders should not be dropped up or picked up on the street. Parents should be entering the school parking lot and driving around the building to drop off/pick up their students before leaving through our exit gates. Traffic moves very quickly on Little York and having students dropped off in our designated spaces helps ensure we are keeping students safe.

VANDALISM

Students caught vandalizing school property will earn consequences for each offense and parents will be charged for the damaged property. Please talk to your students about respecting school property by avoiding and reporting school vandalism.

FOOD SHARING

Please be advised that while parents are able to bring food for their own student, we cannot allow for parents to drop off food for other students. Students on campus can have various food allergies and to ensure safety of all students during lunch times we can’t allow food to be dropped of for students unless it is from their parent. Additionally, when food is dropped off at the front office, students are not called down from their classrooms. Parents will need to have already communicated this to their student.

BACK TO SCHOOL FORMS

If you have not already, you must complete your Back-to-School form for your students in order to complete re-enrollment. All returning students to YES Prep will need to complete this form. Back-to-school forms are available through your Skyward Family Access account.
